About TEMPI

We bring together audiences, artists, and communities around a shared musical heritage that dissolves boundaries and fosters new relationships locally, nationally, and globally.

Who are we?

TEMPI is one of four Danish genre organizations. We are dedicated to strengthening and promoting roots music in Denmark. We strive to create a diverse, inclusive, and sustainable music and cultural landscape – for artists, institutions, venues, audiences, and society. We represent a genre that honors its roots while staying open-eyed and open‑eared to the future.

At TEMPI, we work on partnerships and audience development, documentation and outreach, export initiatives and grant programs, change projects, and advisory services. We aim to develop and offer innovative, transparent solutions to the challenges facing the Danish music and cultural scene and business in 2025.

Our vision

Roots is more than a genre; it reflects many facets beyond what plays on the speakers or on stage. It’s a way of understanding ourselves and our times. It’s through engaging with and evolving this intangible cultural heritage that TEMPI finds its purpose.

So we say without reservation: TEMPI unites audiences, artists, and society around a shared cultural heritage that dissolves boundaries and reinforces relationships at local, national, and global levels.

Our mandate

We receive operational funding from the Danish Arts Foundation in four areas of responsibility:

  • Project activity

  • Information, advisory, and networking services

  • Data and documentation work

  • Grant funding

In addition, three areas are naturally integrated into our work:

  • Fundraising

  • Financial support

  • Audience development

TEMPI’s Service objectives

Our work is grounded in a deep understanding of the folk and world music environments in Denmark and in similar communities abroad. At its core TEMPI aims to bridge established roots‑genre sectors, emerging actors, new trends, and society at large. Below are our service objectives, balancing two key factors: meeting the needs, dynamics, and development of the roots environment, while serving as a natural bridge to broader societal engagement.

Contact can be made via email, website, or phone.

In-person contact: Available only by prior arrangement. The office has no fixed opening hours.
