With the support from Nordic Culture Point, Tempi in partnership with Nordic Folk Alliance and NOMEX, presents Nordic Foothold, a mentorship program that wants to professionalise and build networks across the Nordic region. By having musicians and music professionals complete a mentoring course with established industry players, with the aim of creating a better foothold for folk music across the Nordic region. A more professionalized folk music environment provides more space for music, just as a better cross-Nordic network will create more opportunities across national borders.

What’s the program about?
If you are an artist you get access to 3 sessions consisting of 90 minutes of one to one mentorship sessions relevant with a key Nordic industry mentor. The topic of the sessions can be defined by the artist and mentor to fit the artist’s goals relevant in the moment of taking this mentorship.
If you are an industry person, you will be invited to 2 peer sessions of 90 minutes, where we will have international mentors, talking to a group of peers about best business practices and study cases.
When is the program going to launch?
It is expected that the first sessions take part from March 2021, as the sessions will be carried out online due to Covid19 restrictions, the first mentorship session can be flexible and agreed by mentors and mentees.
Who is going to select the participants?
2 artists and 1 industry person per Nordic country will be selected (Finland, Norway, Iceland, Sweden & Denmark). The mentors will select the artist that they think they match their skills or belong to their field of expertise.

Alexandra Archetti Stolen (NO)
Alexandra Archetti Stølen is the director of the Oslo World Festival since 2006, In 2020 the festival was held for the 27th consecutive year, spread on 20-25 venues around Oslo from the end of October.
Alexandra is also the co-founder of the Beirut & Beyond International Music Festival in Libanon and the founder and initiator of festivals in asylum centers in Oslo called “Our Neighborhood”.
She was the president of the European Forum of Worldwide Music Festivals from 2011-2018 and is a member of the board of the Norwegian Live Association, being involved in various cultural events and cultural management in Norway and abroad. In 2019 Alexandra was honored with the Ordre des arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture and got the city of Oslo artist prize.

Adalsteinn Ásberg Sigurdsson (IS)
Sigurdsson is a prolific songwriter and has been working with various artists for a long time. He´s best known for his outstanding children´s music and various lyrics for jazz and folk music. For some years he was the manager and later on a board member of the Icelandic Society of Authors and Composers and then a member of the board of STEF (Composers´ Rights Society of Iceland). He was also a member of the board of Nordic Culture Fund from 2011-2018.
Sigurdson´s small independent publishing house and music label DIMMA is well known for both original editions and important editions of world literature, folk music and jazz.
Sigurdsson lives in Reykjavík as a writer, translator, editor and publisher.

Inger Bråten (NO)
Killer Inc as is an independent company that provides PR / management / booking / project management services to artists, festivals, events. We have a broad background from the music industry from, among others, publishing, NRK, multinational record companies, booking, events and festivals.
With 20 years of experience in marketing, promotion, strategy planning, project management, we have worked with Norwegian and international artists such as Kim Rysstad, Iron Maiden, Eldbjørg Hemsing, Kvelertak, Oslo Ess, Emilie Nicolas, Enslaved, Norah Jones, Robbie Williams, Janes Addiction , etc. All genres.
Killer Inc as collaborates with both Norwegian and foreign artists and bands, but concentrates on Norwegian media.

Minna Huuskonen (FI)
Over 25 years in music business has taught Minna Huuskonen, CEO of Minnamurra Music Management & Agency, how to find the right ways to advance artists’ careers. Her background includes also festival programming and producing, e.g. Kaustinen Folk Music Festival and Helsinki Festival, so she knows how the opposite side works.
Minna has been mentoring and training musicians cross-genres in Finland and abroad but focuses on folk/world music and jazz. She is a regular visitor at international expos conferences and festivals, and has also been a jury member at various showcase events including e.g. WOMEX. Minnamurra represents artists like Curly Strings, Pekko Käppi and Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble, to name a few.

Hilda Sandgren (SE)
Hilda Sandgren founded MTA Production AB in 2000 after several years of work in the music and theater industry, including as a freelance producer for the Peace & Love festival and for magician Joe Labero, as well as product manager at the record company Bonnier Amigo. Hilda specializes in artistic project management, booking and international collaborations within MTA.
MTA has produced tours around the world. MTA Production strives for equality, democracy and diversity. MTA was the first booking company in Sweden that represented an Equal rooster 50/ 50 female/ male. She was the Ceo of Stockholm Folk Festival, Hesselby Chamber Festival. She teaches and lectures at the Royal Academy of Music, Innovative Music management and is in the management group for Sweden’s largest education in Music & Event in Nyköping.
MTA represents a broad rooster of the finest artists in different genres such as Lena Willemark(folk) Ale Möller, (world) Lisa Miskovsky (pop) and Amanda Ginsburg (jazz) Eva Eastwood (rockabilly) to name a few of them

Johanna Sauramäki (FI)
Johanna Sauramäki is the CEO of Saura Booking Agency. She is an agent, manager and producer with twenty years of experience of live music events in Finland.
Saura Booking Agency was founded in 2014 to focus on the export of urban folk and world music artists that combine modern and contemporary elements to traditional roots.
Artists and bands represented internationally by Saura Booking Agency include Tuuletar, VILDÁ, Maija Kauhanen, Okra Playground, Juurakko and Emma Salokoski. Johanna Sauramäki is also the artistic director of Juuri Nyt Urban Folk Festival and ran a live music club Iholla in Helsinki in 2016-2019.

Petter Seander (SE)
Petter Seander is the founder of Birds Will Sing For You - a PR/press agency situated in Stockholm established in 2011. Birds Will Sing For You works mainly with independent artists and labels, and specializes in the planning of newly launched music careers. Among the firms clients are Sarah Klang, Mando Diao, The Sounds, Saga Becker, Rickard Söderberg, Tomas Andersson Wij as well as many both Swedish and international labels.
Petter is frequently traveling around Sweden giving lectures on DIY marketing and how to slowly build a sustainable artist career in a fast world.

Tom Sherlock (IRL/DK)
Dublin-born Tom Sherlock has worked as a full-time music business professional since 1982 when he began employment with leading Irish folk music label, Claddagh Records, which he helped to establish it as one of the world’s largest distributor of traditional music. During his fifteen years with the label Tom worked as A&R manager and also as production manager. Among the artists he worked closely with were The Chieftains. Since 1997 Tom has worked in music management and event consultancy. He has represented many of the leading Irish traditional music acts among them Altan, Liam O’Flynn, The Poet and the Piper (Seamus Heaney & Liam O’Flynn), The Chieftains, etc.. In recent years he has taken on management of the Danish band, Dreamers Circus.
Tom has wide experience of organising tours in the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Japan, China, Australia and has worked in most European countries.
He works as a programming consultant and advisor to a number of festivals.

Maria Theessink (DK)
Maria Theessink is the Artistic Director & Head of Press at Tønder Festival. Tønder Festival is one of Europe´s most well respected folk & roots festivals. This year it could have celebrated it´s 46 “birthday”.
Maria Theessink is also the owner of MT Promotion where she since 2001 has being doing Freelance PR mainly in the Music Business.
